Kelly recently joined Madderns’ Engineering team as a Trainee Patent Attorney and is currently working towards registration as a Patent and Trade Marks Attorney.

She holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and brings more than six years of research and development experience spanning mechanical engineering, nanomaterials, composite structures optimisation, and biomedical engineering. Her academic background is complemented by a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

Kelly’s doctoral research centred on the mechanical behaviour of graphene platelet-reinforced composites, through which she gained extensive expertise in numerical modelling, computational simulation, material preparation, experimental characterisation, and manufacturing process optimisation for advanced materials.

Before joining Madderns, Kelly expanded her interdisciplinary expertise through postdoctoral work in biomedical engineering, collaborating with clinicians, engineers, and researchers on the development of biomechanics simulations and intravascular imaging technologies aimed at improving cardiovascular health outcomes.

Her work has been published in esteemed international engineering journals and she has contributed to the academic community as a peer reviewer for several international scientific journals, providing in-depth technical assessments across a range of engineering disciplines. She has also mentored multidisciplinary student research teams and delivered lectures and interactive engineering workshops at the University of Adelaide.

With a strong technical foundation across mechanical engineering, aerospace, and nanotechnology, Kelly is dedicated to helping researchers, inventors, engineers, and businesses protect and commercialise their intellectual property. She looks forward to applying her multidisciplinary expertise to support clients in safeguarding their innovations.

Outside of work, Kelly enjoys exploring walking trails with her greyhound, crocheting, and trying out different food with family and friends.
