As a Partner at Madderns and part of the specialist Trade Mark Group, Megan is involved in providing advice regarding the registrability of trade marks, developing risk management strategies regarding use of trade marks, filing and prosecuting trade marks both in Australia and overseas (including international registrations under the Madrid Protocol), management of international trade mark portfolios, investigating and advising on the validity of registrations and advising on infringement issues.

Megan specialises in contested trade mark opposition proceedings and non-use cancellation actions before the Australian Trade Mark Office.

Although working with businesses across a broad range of industries, Megan has particular expertise in the food and beverage industry, especially wine, and a growing reputation in the fashion industry.

Megan has been consistently recognised as a leading trade mark professional for prosecution and strategy work in the annual “World Trade Mark Review” since 2018 and was an integral part of the team that was awarded “Australian Trade Mark Firm of the Year” at the Global IP Awards for 2020 presented by IAM and the World Trademark Review.

She is a Fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trademark Attorneys (IPTA) and has recently been appointed to the IPTA Council. Megan is also a member of IPTA’s Trade Marks, Designs and Indigenous Knowledge Committee and the Education and Media & Communications Committees. In addition, Megan is a member of the International Trademarks Association (INTA) Geographical Indications Committee.

Prior to joining Madderns in 2008 and registering as a Trade Marks Attorney, Megan worked as a solicitor at a prominent Adelaide-based corporate and commercial law firm for seven years. She specialised in dispute resolution and intellectual property law.

Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Adelaide and a Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Melbourne.
