Louise is a trade mark specialist.
With more than 20 years of experience in intellectual property law, Louise works with businesses to protect, manage and defend their valuable trade marks in Australia and internationally. This includes filing and prosecuting trade mark applications and representing clients in trade mark opposition and cancellation proceedings.
Louise has particular expertise with wine trade marks and the food and drinks sector. Louise also works with businesses across a diverse range of other industries including automobiles, clothing, cosmetics, healthcare, software and sports.
Louise commenced working in intellectual property in 2000. Prior to joining Madderns in 2007 to specialise exclusively in trade marks, Louise spent 5 years working as an intellectual property/commercial lawyer at a large Australasian law firm, and just under 2 years working in intellectual property law in London.
Louise has been recognised as a Trade Mark “IP Star” in Managing Intellectual Property’s World IP Survey (since 2014), and she has been listed as a leading Australian trade mark professional in the World Trade Mark Review 1000 (also since 2014). In 2020, Louise was named South Australia’s “Lawyer of the Year” for Intellectual Property Law by Best Lawyers.
Louise has a Master of Laws (specialising in intellectual property law) from Melbourne University, a Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice (with Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts (Spanish/Japanese) from Flinders University. She has also completed the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines.
Louise is a member and past Chair of the South Australian Committee for the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ), and a Fellow of the Institute of Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys (IPTA). She is also a member of the Famous and Well-Known Marks Committee for the International Trademarks Association (INTA).
