Otto is a Patent and Trade Marks Attorney, carrying out local and foreign patent prosecution and drafting for mechanical engineering technologies.

Otto joined Madderns’ engineering team with more than five years of experience working with large international petroleum companies in both domestic and international markets.

Prior to joining Madderns, he held a position with one of the largest oil field service companies in the world, as a Graduate Completions and Productions Engineer, where he was responsible for identifying and recommending wellbore construction solutions to clients.

More recently, Otto worked as an Offshore Drilling Engineer at a large multinational oil company, responsible for implementing downhole drilling equipment for deep water production wells.

During his time in industry, Otto was acknowledged as being in the top percentile of graduate engineers, receiving an award of excellence for his contributions in offshore drilling optimisation.

Otto has a Bachelor of Engineering (Petroleum) degree from the University of Adelaide, where he graduated with first class honours and also held the position of Research Fellow.

Otto enjoys approaching challenges with an engineering and commercial mindset, and brings a unique perspective to the patent arena through his understanding of innovation and its importance in the engineering industry.

Otto’s interests include travelling whenever possible, mechanical wristwatches and an obsession with the stock market.
