Louise heads up the Trade Marks Team at Madderns.
Louise is an Australian Trade Mark Attorney with over 20 years of experience in intellectual property law. Louise works with businesses across a broad range of industries to secure, manage and defend their valuable brands in Australia and overseas. This includes filing and prosecuting trade mark applications and representing clients in trade mark opposition and cancellation proceedings. Louise has particular expertise with wine trade marks and in the food and drinks sector generally.
Louise has been named as a leading trade mark professional in the annual World Trade Mark Review 1000 (since 2014), and she has been listed as a Trade Mark “IP Star” in Managing Intellectual Property’s annual World IP Survey (also since 2014). In 2020, Louise was named South Australia’s “Lawyer of the Year” for Intellectual Property Law by Best Lawyers.
Louise commenced working in intellectual property law in 2000. She spent five years as an intellectual property/commercial lawyer for a large Australasian law firm and over 18 months at intellectual property firms in London, before joining Madderns to specialise purely in trade marks in 2007.
Louise has a Master of Laws (specialising in intellectual property law) from Melbourne University (2009) and a Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice (with Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts (Spanish/Japanese) from Flinders University (1999). She has also completed the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines.
Louise is a member (and past Chairperson) of the South Australian Committee for the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ), and a Fellow of the Institute of Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys. She is also a member of the Bulletins Committee for the International Trademarks Association (INTA).
