Louise is a Trade Mark Attorney and Partner at Madderns, and she leads our Trade Marks Team. Louise has more than 20 years of experience in intellectual property law.
Prior to joining Madderns in 2007 to specialise purely in trade marks, Louise worked as an intellectual property/commercial lawyer for a large Australasian law firm and she also worked for intellectual property firms in London.
Louise works with businesses to secure, manage and defend their valuable brands in Australia and overseas. This includes filing and prosecuting trade mark applications and representing clients in trade mark opposition and cancellation proceedings. Louise has particular expertise with wine trade marks and in the food and drinks sector. She also works with businesses across a diverse range of other industries including automobiles, clothing, cosmetics, software and sports.
Since 2014, Louise has been named as a leading trade mark professional in the annual World Trade Mark Review 1000, and listed as a Trade Mark “IP Star” in Managing Intellectual Property’s annual World IP Survey. In 2020, Louise was named South Australia’s “Lawyer of the Year” for Intellectual Property Law by Best Lawyers.
Louise has a Master of Laws (specialising in intellectual property law) from Melbourne University, a Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice (with Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts (Spanish/Japanese) from Flinders University. She has also completed the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines.
Louise is a member and past Chair of the South Australian Committee for the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ), and a Fellow of the Institute of Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys. She is also a member of the Bulletins Committee for the International Trademarks Association (INTA).
