Mat is a registered Australian and New Zealand Patent and Trade Marks Attorney in Madderns’ highly regarded life sciences and chemistry team.

Mat has more than 25 years of experience in patent prosecution, patent litigation, patent opposition, freedom to operate clearances, litigation support, as well as strategic commercial and licensing advice.  He works with a wide range of company types from start-ups through to multinational organisations.

Mat holds a PhD in Chemistry with a technical expertise covering organic and inorganic chemistry, pharmaceuticals, materials science, life sciences and diagnostics, and chemical engineering.

Mat commenced his IP career with a prominent Australian patent attorney firm and assisted with setting up their Singapore office and ASEAN practice. Having spent more than 12 years as a Partner, Principal, and patent attorney in Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia, Mat brings extensive experience from working in South East Asia.

Prior to his patent attorney career, Mat held post-doctoral research roles in both Adelaide and Chicago.

Outside of work, Mathew enjoys a round of golf, native fish and frog breeding and attending to the many needs of his Australian Bulldog.
