Matthew works with engineering firms, providing a range of services from conventional patent services to in-house training, as well as comprehensive Intellectual Property (IP) strategy advice. He works with a wide range of company types from start-up through to multinational organisations.

Matthew commenced his IP career with an Australian patent attorney firm, before relocating to the Singapore office of a prominent global patent firm. Having spent more than 20 years as a partner and patent attorney in Singapore, Matthew brings extensive experience from working with South East Asian clients.

He is primarily involved with the drafting and prosecution of patent applications on behalf of Australian and international clients, in various areas of technology, including medical devices, semiconductor manufacturing, process engineering and control systems for manufacturing.

Matthew has experience in litigation matters in Singapore and Australia, including regularly appearing as an expert witness for validity and infringement issues before the IP Court of Malaya.

Over the last decade, Matthew has variously been recognised as an IP expert (Asia IP Magazine: 2021 to 2024), an expert in IP strategy (IAM Strategy 300: 2017 & 2018) and an IP Star each year from 2015 to present (Managing Intellectual Property Magazine).

Prior to entering the IP profession, Matthew worked in the R&D department of a listed Australian company, which involved the commercialisation of building products for the construction industry and pipeline renovation systems. Later, he managed a business unit in the Faculty of Engineering at Adelaide University, offering outsourced R&D services to South Australian based companies.

Outside of work, Matthew enjoys travelling with his wife, is a terrible golfer and he is regularly outplayed by his three children when playing video games.

Previously, David studied at the University of South Australia and obtained a Bachelor of Business (Property), with which he practised for four years in the commercial property domain.

David is a passionate motorsports fan and has a keen interest in automotive engineering and mechanical design. He represented the University of Adelaide on two occasions at the annual Formula SAE Australasia competition, being part of a team responsible for the design and build of two formula-style open wheel racing cars.
