Tom is a registered patent and trade marks attorney and has been a partner at Madderns for over 20 years. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering, an MBA and a Diploma in Intellectual Property Practice.
Tom works with Engineers and other innovators, in-house Patent Counsel, Engineering Managers and CEOs across a range of engineering disciplines spanning: Medical Devices; Energy Systems; Automotive Technology; Mining Equipment; Piping and Filtration Technologies and Consumer Products.

Having worked in industry for a decade before becoming a patent attorney, Tom adopts a commercially-focused approach to assisting clients with intellectual property matters. He provides pragmatic strategic advice relevant to his clients’ business needs.
He has a strong interest in sustainable technologies (including clean power generation and fossil fuel replacement technologies) and medical technologies (including vascular and surgical devices).
Tom works to protect client inventions in many countries and is a member of IPTA, IPSANZ, FICPI and AIPPI. He regularly attends IP conference meetings to build networks with other IP professionals so as to best advise his clients, and to keep abreast with international developments in intellectual property law.
Tom is a keen cyclist and also enjoys spending time with his family bushwalking and sailing.
