Tom works with engineers and other innovators, engineering managers, CEOs and in-house patent counsel across a range of technical disciplines spanning medical devices, energy systems, automotive technology, mining equipment; piping and filtration technologies and consumer products.

Having worked in industry for a decade before becoming a Patent Attorney, Tom has adopted a commercially-focused approach to assisting clients with intellectual property matters. He provides pragmatic strategic advice relevant to his clients’ business needs.

Together with his colleagues at Madderns, Tom provides assistance with patents, trade marks and designs to a wide range of innovative Australian and overseas companies.

Tom works to protect client inventions in many countries and has a strong network of other intellectual practitioners in Australia, the US, Europe, Japan, China and South America. This enables Tom to assist his clients in export markets and helps him keep abreast with international developments in intellectual property law.

Tom has a strong interest in sustainable technologies (including clean power generation and fossil fuel replacement technologies) and medical technologies (including vascular and surgical devices).

Outside of work, Tom enjoys spending time with his family, cycling, bushwalking and sailing.
