Craig has been working in the Patent Attorney profession since 1983. He holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the South Australian Institute of Technology (now known as the University of South Australia). Prior to joining Madderns, Craig worked in material science and engineering failure analysis. He became a registered Patent and Trade Marks Attorney in 1987, and became a Partner at Madderns in 1988.

Craig has significant experience in patent, design and trade mark work in many different areas but particularly in acting for a number of major Australian companies in the mining, manufacturing, child safety industries, food packaging and medical devices areas. He also acts for some of Australia’s leading wineries in relation to their local and international trade marks.

He has had extensive experience in litigation matters over the last 25 years and has been involved in a number of leading cases before the Federal Court of Australia, some of which have progressed to the High Court. Although litigation needs to be approached with care and avoided if possible, Craig’s experience is invaluable in the strategic pursuit of litigation as a business tool.

Craig is an active member of several professional organisations and is a past Regional Chair and Trustee of the Licensing Executive Society.

Outside of work, Craig constantly tries to improve his ability to hit a golf ball and has a passionate interest in the flying of gliders cross-country in the Riverland in South Australia and across into Victoria. Cycling long distances through the lovely Adelaide Hills has also become a recent obsession. And the quest for that perfect bottle of red wine continues (all suggestions gratefully accepted).

The respected international journal Managing Intellectual Property has named Craig as a patent “IP Star” each year since 2014.
